I really wonder why he tells that the way is narrow when everything is supposedly covered by grace? Not only is the way narrow but it is difficult. It’s just not easy to walk as He walked. Why we may ask, is it so difficult?
It is difficult because it is not compatible with our basic nature, we are self-centered individuals by nature. In order for us to follow His example we have to die to self, putting away that egocentric part of ourselves.
Did He not say, He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. (Matthew 10:37-39)
He tells us we must follow His example, and His teachings. Not just once but repeatedly, and in several different ways.
The Apostle John also tells us, “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” (1st John 2:6)
What is this narrow path that Yahshua was so insistent about? If we look at what He told the Woman at the well, or His exchange with the young rich ruler we begin to see.
Yahshua said to the woman at the well, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.” He pointed out Her sin according to the Commandments of God. She was an adulteress!
He did the same thing with the young ruler. Saying, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”
Yahshua / Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”
20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. (Matthew 19:17-22)
Here He says, if you want to enter into life keep the commandments. And then He pointed out His sin according to the Commandments. The young rich ruler walked away because His riches prevented him from following Yahshua.
At every opportunity Yahshua Christ brought forward the Commandments of God and told us, ““If you love Me, keep My commandments.” (John 14:15)
In the book of Revelation this is confirmed in no uncertain terms, “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie. (Revelation 11-15)
Keeping it simple, Yahshua, our judge, is coming and bringing his reward. And then we’re told that the reward is Heaven for those who have faithfully kept the Commandments of God.
But those who have not are left out side for having believed the lies of Satan, the lawless one.
Until we hang on to every word that Christ Yahshua said, we will never get beyond the Anti-Christ. Nor will we understand the true meaning of grace.
Shalom my friends,
