There is a sign that says who lives or dies!

Exodus 31:12 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
13“Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you.
14 You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people.
15 Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
16 Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant.
17 It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’”
18 And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.

There were not just Israelites at the foot of the mountain, but a mixed multitude of various people who were either slaves, or living in Egypt, and came out with them.

Exodus 12:37 Then the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides children.
38 A mixed multitude went up with them also, and flocks and herds—a great deal of livestock.

So YHVH is speaking of a crowd of people who are not only the Children of Israel / Jacob, but from other nations as well. And many were Egyptians who came out with them, having seen first-hand the power of God.

So, before He hands over the tablets to Moses, what is the very last thing He says to Him. What takes precedence over all other things?

The Sabbath must be kept!

YHVH says, “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you.” (Vs 13)

Sanctification comes from God. He sets us aside as His, a holy and righteous people. There is no other source of sanctification, and this is why He says that the Sabbath is a sign, or mark that His people bear, making them different from any other people in the World. It is a sign that they are obedient to YHVH God, and walk in His ways.

Deuteronomy 4:7 “For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him?
8 And what great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day?”

Clearly, He sanctifies and sets aside those who keep His Commandments. Not because they are Jews or Hebrews, but because they are obedient, and walk according to YHVH’s instructions.

YHVH tells Moses, “You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people.” (Vs 14)

Ostracized, excluded, and removed from the assembly of YHVH, because of going against the very mark of God. and he says we are marked for death because we have violated His most important Commandment.

YHVH Says, “Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.” (Vs 15)

YHVH doesn’t repeat Himself, unless it is something that we must really hear and understand. We must not work, but rest on His Sabbath day. And the punishment for not hearing this, is death.

We must not call on the name of YHVH God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, unless we are going to submit to Him.

Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

And why did the author of Hebrews say that? Simply because He will judge us and those who fail to make the grade will die an eternal death. God says what He means, and means what he says.

“Therefore, the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant.
It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’”
(Vs 16, 17)

So now, my gentile friends, we need to determine whether or not we are a part of the same body of believers that this applies to, don’t we?

When we come to Christ, we have placed ourselves in submission to a Jewish Savior, the King of Israel, have we not. We come to Him broken and He receives us into His assembly, we are grafted into His Kingdom.

And how do we learn of Him except that we have read and studied a book of scripture written by Hebrews / Israelites. And have come to faith in the God of Israel.

Perhaps then we need to consider that we have become a part of the mixed multitude of Israel. And because this is so, everything in the Bible applies to us, even the keeping of the 4th Commandment, the Sabbath.

For without it we do not bear His mark, or His sign that we have been sanctified.

And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God. (Vs 18)

Christ knew and understood these things, and this is why He said, you cannot color out side of the lines. And surely, we have been doing this.

Hence He says, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
  (Matthew 7:13, 14)

There isn’t much time, get ready to receive your King, and do not be judge as one worthy of death! For He is coming to Judge.

Shalom My friends,

Chuck Greever
