The Lesson is always followed by the Test.

Matthew 8:18 And when Yahshua / Jesus saw great multitudes about Him, He gave a command to depart to the other side.
19 Then a certain scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.”
20 And Yahshua / Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
21 Then another of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
22 But Yahshua / Jesus said to him, “Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him.
24 And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep.
25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
27 So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

When a scribe came to Him wanting to follow Him, He tells Him that it may be a little uncomfortable for Him.

Then a certain scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.”
And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
(Vs 19, 20)

So many of us are just like this Scribe, aren’t we? We want to serve Christ, but we want a salary, and a retirement plan, and we want a place to live, and a Church building, so we can remain in that place and prosper.

But for those who truly serve Christ, it may not be so.

Then another of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
But Jesus said to him, “Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
(Vs 21, 22)

Our life is not our own when we enter into service to the Messiah of Israel. Nothing else matters except His Word, and the Holy Spirit that brings it.  Not Family, not Church buildings, and not our comfort or our Pay.

We have entered into service to God, and he takes care of His own. Everything Christ Yahshua needed was provided, as he had need. He was fed, and fed others, He always had a place to sleep, even if it was under the stars, and there was no church building, or a house, but there were always people following after Him, wanting to hear the truth, wanting to know Him, and wanting to be near to Him.

Thus, He and His disciples changed the world.

Not with money, nor by looking wealthy and successful, or even with a seminary degree. It was the Power of the Holy Spirit, and the Word of God according to the truth, that accomplished everything His ministry required.

When we begin to trust Him for the deliverance of those who must be saved, this is all that matters. A trusting heart and a willingness to go where we are sent regardless of the available means, when we depart, He will provide.

However, I understand that it requires an inordinate amount of faith to live in this world according to His Way, and to serve unselfishly, a Lord who is unseen but can only be known by faith.

So, God bless those who have entered His service in Faith, and will walk according to His ways.

And with that, they all got into the boat and departed.

Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him.
And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep.
(Vs 23, 24)

While the storm rages he sleeps? Here is someone who knows that there’s nothing to fear.

Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
(Vs 25, 26)

When we’re in His service there is nothing to fear. Everything is under his control from the time we enter this world as a baby, till the time we die. He has had us in the palm of His hands, even when we were His enemy, He was with us. always preparing the way for us, and teaching us by experience. But now we will be tested to see if we will have faith in him, and to see if we really believe.

For as surely as we have had the lesson, we will also have the test.

So, the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” (Vs 27)

This is really the core issue, isn’t? Who is he? We will know by what he was capable of. This World and everything in will bow to His will, For He and the Father are one!

Did he not say, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
(John 14:6, 7)

Those of us who do not believe will continue to used the trappings of this World, but understand that some of us are called to come to terms with what He can do, and will trust Him no matter how things appear.

Shalom my friends,

Chuck Greever
