Returning to the Acts 2 Church!

Acts 2:40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”
41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.
42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43 Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.
44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common,
45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.
46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,
47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

Whatever happened to the church as it was in Acts Chapter two?

Peter having been filled with the Holy Spirit preached to Jews who came all over the Roman Empire. He preached to thousands on the day of Shavout / Pentecost, and about 3 thousand came to Christ that day.

saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”
Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.
(Vs 40, 41)

The Apostles must have been busy that day, Baptizing three thousand at a time. But following that day, others would come and they continued to follow the Apostles teaching and their doctrine. Thus, the Church of Christ began and continued to grow. And most of them were natives of Israel, so they kept the Sabbath just as YHWH God ordained it, they also gathered at the appointed time, and ate clean foods. Just like any other Jew, they believed in Messiah and kept the Commandments according to the scriptures, and the doctrine of the Apostles.

Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.
(Vs 43)

It was as if Christ Himself was among them, miracles, wonders, and signs were done through the apostles, notice that it doesn’t say by the apostles, but through them. The Holy Spirit of Christ brought power into the church through those whom Yahshua / Jesus had hand-picked. Notice also that these were men who were not trained as priests, but were ordinary men, whom Christ had taught by the Holy Spirit all that they needed to know.

John 14:25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you.
26But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Just as he had promised, the Holy Spirit was the backbone of the leadership in this Church. This could not be found in synagogues, no even in the Temple itself, but among this simple assembly of believers the Spirit led and guided everything this Church did.

Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common,
and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.
(Vs 44-45)

These people came together as a body to manifest Christ, and no other.

They shared everything in common, and even sold off their personal possessions, so that no one lacked what they needed. And this is the way they came together as brothers and sisters, holding no one at arm’s length. This is what true fellowship is!

So, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, (Vs 46)

They had no church building, but met in homes, going from house to house. They ate together, and they were filled with a simplicity of heart. These people were happy to be together, for by the Spirit they knew where they belonged. Truly the kingdom had come to rest on these first Christians / Messianics.

praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. (Vs 47)

This church was growing daily, and it was because Christ brought them into the church, His presence among His people created a persona that was attracting others, it wasn’t Peter, or any other personality that created this environment of holiness, but the presence of the Holy Spirit among the people whom Christ had called and set apart.

This is the only basis for revival, and the only way to build a church that will withstand the trials that are coming.

I have been a part of so many churches that were crying out for a return to the Acts 2 Church, but it could not happen because of selfishness, and pride. That coupled with the fact that we Have been following the doctrine of a corrupt Roman Catholic Church since before 321 AD. Most of us have no understanding of what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit, because we do not know what was lost to us so many years ago, and we are not willing to learn.

So here is why I am constantly trying to call us back to the Way, the Truth, and the Life of Christ. Until we fit His likeness, and walk in His Ways, we will not be able to return to His Church, and the Holy Spirit may be an influence on us, but continue to hold us at arm’s length.

Learn to walk according to the Commandments of God and then perhaps we’ll draw near to the Kingdom of Elohim.

For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God.
(1st Corinthians 6:14-16)

‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” (Zachariah 1:3)
