Read the Red Letters.

Matthew 26:31 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
32 But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.”
33 Peter answered and said to Him, “Even if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.”
34 Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”
35 Peter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” And so said all the disciples.

Yahshua unfolds before His disciples the events that are going to take place immediately after leaving the upper room. He is trying to prepare them for what will most certainly be a very traumatic time for all of them.

He quotes the prophet as in Zechariah 13:1. saying, “‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’” (Vs 31)

These 12 men love Him dearly, and He wanting to comfort them, telling them once again that after he is Killed he will return to them.

“But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.” (Vs 32)

However, Peter is still dealing with the Idea that he will be made to stumble. And he says, “Even if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.” (Vs 33)

Peter is speaking out of his love for Yahshua, and also out of his pride, and Yahshua responds in a way that will be humbling for Peter. He says to Peter, “Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” (Vs 34)

Did Peter believe Him? I think not!

He says to Yahshua, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” (Vs 35)

Now, everyone knows that Peter did deny Christ Yahshua three times, and then the cock that Yahshua spoke of cried out.

The interesting thing about this is that there are no chickens allowed in Jerusalem.  It was against the law to have and to keep chickens in the holy city. So how could there be a cock crowing?

What most do not know was that the watchman on the wall of the Temple was named the cock because his voice could be heard for miles as he cried out the hour. He was the cock that Yahshua spoke of.

But in any case, what Messiah says, we can take to the bank He has never missed the mark, and everything he says is absolutely true.

This is why we must take the time to read and study everything he says, as it is written in the Holy Scriptures. We who believe that Yahshua is the Son of God, and because we believe, we must also follow Him.

How is that possible if we do not understand His heart and His mind, because we have not been able to recall every word he said?

He spoke of every facet of the gospel we profess to believe. How are we to know the truth without knowing the living Word of God, the Logos!

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

Yahshua is the Living Word of God, and we will be subject to being deceived by false teacher’s if we do not know His Word,

Study ever word he says, read the red letters in your Bible, so that we cannot be deceived.

How else can we defend against these Liars?

Shalom my friends,

  1. This story often brings me to tears. I know Peter loved His Master. That he himself believed He could never deny His Master, even unto death, I believe was utterly and passionately sincere. I think, for me, this shows how little we truly know ourselves until we are tested by fire. In that fiery moment, most of us experience some degree of panic. Then the full force of our flesh takes over. I do not think panic comes from pride, but from the shock that we are in a situation that not only have we not imagined, but from the realization that we have no experience or knowledge to draw on to fight this battle of flesh. That is why Yeshua was so merciful. He knew Peter was sincere, but really as yer had no idea the power of his own flesh to “self-preserve”. I used to be a nurse. I was trained to respond to many a crisis, but when confronted with something totally new and personal, I have had that moment of panic. When my daughter was 18, she was combing her hair and getting ready for her day when she suddenly slumped to the floor and had a long grand mal siezure. I was paralyzed, All my training was irrelevant because this was not a patient, this was my only child, the greatest gift God ever gave me, and I was helpless to stop this. I was consumed in fear for her life and in my breaking heart at seeing her suffering. The body and mind have their own overwhelming desire to preserve life, and that instinct sometimes crushes all rational thought, at least in the moment. Peter’s zeal was earnest, and the Lord loved him for it, immature as it was at times. Peter’s stumble humbles me greatly, to tears, because I, too, am passionate for my Master, and I wonder if I would rationally and in faith stay the course in the heat of the fire. Since, in faithfulness, He has shown me my own weakness, I cry out to Him all the more to hold on to me and not let me go, as He faithfully interceded and guarded Peter. The eternal Friend of Peter taught him so much through his stumbling, not the least of which were humility, compassion towards the short comings of others, true fear of YH, self-realization unto great repentance and greater faithfulness. I know I will still have those moments when life training and experience will utterly fail me, and I will be so in need of the Friend of Peter, who will stay with me in spite of me, in order to make me a better witness for His Father’s glory. Have mercy on me, Friend and Keeper of Peter. I let you down too often, but my love is true.
