1And God spoke all these words, saying:
2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,
6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.
11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
Here in YHWH’s own words are His instruction to live by. Given to His people whom He has redeemed and freed from bondage in Egypt.
This should be the end of the story but, “No” it’s not. These same people who pleaded with Him to come and save them from their massive hard life, will yes, to God but then everything they do says, “No.” and still today we have said no, to His ways, and His instructions, even when we know that it’s wrong to disobey our creator.
What’s remarkable about the whole thing is that it’s not that difficult to live holy lives.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. (1st John 5:3)
It’s just not that hard to do, but many of us act like its some grievous thing to obey God. We claim all sorts of hardships are involved but no one is able to say what they are. Is it that difficult to not commit adultery? Or murder? We lie, cheat, and steal, knowing that we’re doing these things in God’s presence, and we continue to do them and even look for justification, But it shall not be!
All of us will be judged by the same commandments that YHWH gave us at Sinai and if we are judged to have shirked our duty to obey our King, we will see Him turn His back on us.
He warned us that He would do this, still we do not listen. When he says to us, speaking of that fateful day of judgment, “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7:22, 23)
He says, “I never knew you, Depart from me, You who practice Lawlessness? Missionaries, Pastors, evangelists, elders, and Bishops alike will be sent packing straight to the pit, because they denied God’s Law to His face, and did not teach it to those who might have survived and gone on to be in YHWH’s Holy City.
This is the price that those of us will pay because we thought it was too much trouble to obey our creator. I’m telling you now, because it’s not too late to return to Him in truth.
Repent and turn from your sin, Lawlessness.
Shalom my friends,
