Let’s get real!

Matthew 23:2 “The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat.
3 Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do.
4 For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments.
6 They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
7 greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’
8 But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren.
9 Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.
10 And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ.
11 But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

It is sometimes very difficult to discern the difference between what is genuine and what is false. But where Pharisees are concerned Yehoshua has them pegged.

“The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat.
Therefore, whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do.”
(Vs 2, 3)

When they sit in Moses seat, and read from the Torah, that you must do, because it comes from the scriptures.

But then, He tells us that we must not follow their example, and do as they do. Because they say one thing, but do another.

He goes on to say, “For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.” (Vs 4)

All of us have know people who expect more from others, than they themselves are willing to do. And the Pharisees apparently were of a mind to live as examples to others but in reality, to do things that were not exemplary.

“But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments.
They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’”
(Vs 5-7)

Here is Yehoshua’s summation of Pharisees, and how they roll. He gives us a definition of a phony, by The Messiah of Israel, and uses these men as the ultimate example.

I have had some personal experiences with modern day Pharisees who were both false teachers and phonies all in one breath. And not all of them were clergy, some were just people who thought they were something more than just saved.

“But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren.

Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven.
And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ.”
(Vs 8-10)

I have admonished several men that wanted to refer to me as a father, and while I was honored in hearing that word applied to me, I had to tell them that they must not call anyone “Father” on earth. What comes from me is a gift from God, and while some of my teachings are better than some, and some are just average. I will not stand in Yehoshua’s lime light, for without His Spirit there I would be devoid of any real meaning in what I write to my friends.

Did He not say? “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

It is my prayer that this comes to pass in my life. But in summation Yehoshua says that we are called to be servants, not phonies.

And here is His description of what Is a genuine servant of God. He said, “But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Vs 11, 12)

I don’t know about those who are reading this lesson, but understand this one thing, we are exposing here what Christ says, His Word is holy, and is the same Word that spoke the world into existence, and set the stars and moon in their places.

Anyone who sets Himself above Yehoshua, is an impostor, and should be stoned, or at the very least shunned.

Be careful who you listen to, make certain they are speaking or writing via the Holy Spirit.

“If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.”
(John 14:23, 24)

Shalom my friends.
