Deuteronomy 4:1“Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving you.
2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
3 Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at Baal Peor; for the Lord your God has destroyed from among you all the men who followed Baal of Peor.
4 But you who held fast to the Lord your God are alive today, every one of you.
The children of Israel were near Midian, and they were invited to the worship of Baal. Rather than say no, they violated their covenant with YHVH. And here’s what happened as a result of their unfaithfulness. Take heed!
Numbers 25:1 Now Israel remained in Acacia Grove, and the people began to commit harlotry with the women of Moab.
2 They invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.
3 So Israel was joined to Baal of Peor, and the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel.
4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of the people and hang the offenders before the Lord, out in the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may turn away from Israel.”
5 So Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Every one of you kill his men who were joined to Baal of Peor.”
6 And indeed, one of the children of Israel came and presented to his brethren a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping at the door of the tabernacle of meeting.
7 Now when Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose from among the congregation and took a javelin in his hand;
8 and he went after the man of Israel into the tent and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body. So, the plague was stopped among the children of Israel.
9 And those who died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.
Entering into a covenant with YHVH is not to be taken lightly, He will keep His part, even if we don’t, and we must not forget that He has promised retribution to those who violate His commandments, (The terms of this Covenant agreement).
“Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving you.” (Vs 1)
Everything with YHVH is conditional on the basis of living within the confines of our covenant agreement. And He makes that abundantly clear in these few verses. We may think that it’s Ok to go to Sunday Church, and it is!
But it’s not Ok to mow our grass on Saturday, for that is his commanded day of rest. For it is the 7th day.
Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.
11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
This day is set aside and is part of the Covenant that we have agreed to. But this is just a hint as to the corruption of His covenant agreement with us, that we have participated in.
Rather than keeping His ordained Feast days, we have replaced Passover with Easter. (Ishtar is the name of the Pagan goddess of fertility) Thus, we have egg laying bunnies and because we have been deceived into this Pagan practice, and we think nothing of it, but what do we think YHVH thinks of it?
And then Christmas, we have again applied the holy name of Christ to that which is a tradition of idol worshippers, for the same thing was being done thousands of years before Christ was born. It was then called Saturnalia.
If it was something that was necessary for us to do, perhaps it might be forgivable, but we all know that it’s for our own pleasure, not because it serves YHVH God in any way. Therefore, we have violated both the 3rd and 4th Commandments. Taking His name in vain, and violating His holy Sabbath.
And there are other things we do as well, that make us more Idol worshippers, than followers of Christ our Savior.
“You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” (Vs 2)
Our Paganized version of Christianity is going to be the death of those who continue in it. It is no different than bowing down to Baal and eating of the meat that is sacrificed at Baal’s altar.
24,000 died because of what was done by Israel at Baal Peor, how many more will die because of our idolatry. Many more have died already, because we have forsaken YHVH, and engaged in idol worship.
Yes, we have knelt down to the god of lies, and death. Rather than live by the covenant given to us By YHVH God Himself.
“Your eyes have seen what the Lord did at Baal Peor; for the Lord your God has destroyed from among you all the men who followed Baal of Peor.
But you who held fast to the Lord your God are alive today, every one of you.” (Vs 3, 4)
The plague that killed 24,000 souls could have been the same man-made plague we have today. But in any case, the outcome is the same. Death!
But those who follow Y’shua need not fear, for He prevents them from succumbing to any plague.
No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. (Psalms 91:10, 11)
The best protection we can have against any plague or sickness, accidental or otherwise, is a love relationship with the living Word of God, Yahshua! A loving relationship based on the truth of His Word, and the keeping of the Covenant.
Did he not say, “If you love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)
Here is the sign that we have truly joined ourselves to our creator, that we love Him, and thus we live for Him, and like sheep we follow Him. And we look to Him for protection, and good pastures.
“I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.
15As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.
16And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.” (John 10:14-16)
