Hear, O Israel!

Mark 12:28Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?”
29 Yahshua / Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.
31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

32 So the scribe said to Him, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He.
33 And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
34 Now when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” But after that no one dared question Him.

A scribe asked this question, “Which is the first commandment of all?” Not out of curiosity, but to test Yahshua / Jesus. The Test results were not exactly what He was expecting. A clear and concise explanation of what it means to have a genuine relationship with YHWH God.

“Yahshua / Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.” (Vs 29)

Yahshua repeats the Shema, that we are to listen and pay heed, The Creator is one. He has no limits, but is in the creation itself. Everything is made up of atoms, that are alive, and it is the essence of YHWH God that binds them together. Our flesh, our chair that we are sitting on, the car we drive, and the earth itself, are all an extension of YHWH God’s oneness. YHWH our Elohim is one! there is nothing in existence that is not held together by Him. He is our existence, and He is one with everything!

Then Yahshua says, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.” (Vs 30)

So, lets talk about loving Him, to whom we owe everything, from the air in our lungs to the next beat of our heart.  How do we love YHWH God? The maker and the giver of all life! Perhaps we can begin by giving Yah what He wants most from us?

Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

Simply to obey Him and to walk in His ways, is the ultimate expression of love to YHWH God.

And why Yahshua says, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” (John 14:15) and a few verses later He explains saying: “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” (John 14:21)

For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, (Hosea 6:6) Love and mercy go hand in hand, and God is all about love.

1st John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

So, YHWH God is loved in the fact that we love one another. Each of us is an expression of our creator, and when we love Him, we begin to see Him in everyone. And why not if God is one? AMEN!

So, the scribe said to Him, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He.
And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
Now when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” But after that no one dared question Him.
(Vs 32-34)
