“If you love Me, keep My commandments.
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. (John 14:15-18)
I can’t tell you how many times I sat through a Sunday service and heard prayer after prayer for the gifts of the Holy Spirit. And why is it that those gifts are so sparse in the traditional Church, when the Word of God should be flowing fourth Like a swollen river.
One pastor suggested that we should look for the reason that the Holy Spirit was not making its presence known in that Congregation.
I’m not saying that there was never any evidence of the Holy Spirit. But what I am saying is that it was not the driving force in worship and in the practices of that church.
And after much study and prayer, here is what I discovered.
Christ Himself pointed out the problem when He said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” (Vs 15)
Apparently keeping the commandments is key to loving Him, and key to the pouring out of the Holy Spirit, because that’s what follows on the heels of His, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” Statement.
He says, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. (Vs 16, 17)
I don’t know about everyone else, but to me he is saying that when we truly love Him the Holy Spirit comes to us, and will be with us, or in us. He abides with us!
In other words. He does not pour our His Spirit in those who do not love Him enough to do as He says, and follow His example, or His Way.
Perhaps this has something to do with why the original Church was called “The Followers of the Way”. (See Acts chapter 2)
He also said, that the world could not receive this Holy Spirit, “the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him;” (Vs 17)
So, those of us who are in and of the world, will not be able to know this Spirit of Truth. In other words, they will be deceived.
The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
And for this reason, God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2nd Thessalonians 2:9-12)
He says, “but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” (Vs 17) He is speaking to those who have committed their lives to Him, and who surely love Him.
When Christ Yahshua speaks, we must understand that the living Word of God is speaking to us. And when He repeats Himself, it is so that we will lean forward to listen because it is important. And what he says in the next few verses is to make it absolutely clear, that when we belong wholly to Him, things will happen in our lives that are by no means ordinary.
He says again, “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” (John 14:21)
Consider How He and the Father might manifest themselves in our lives?
The Holy Spirit comes and dwells in us, and the gifts of the Spirit of God manifest in our lives.
And here is why he says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:9, 10)
Here is the culmination of everything we have been instructed to do, By His Spirit. We will know that he is the way, the truth, and the Life, and follow Him. But a thief, or a person who pretends to be something he is not, will not obey God, but cause dissention among the sheep, bringing sin into the flock. (a reference to the Lawless one, or Anti-Christ.)
But Christ Yahshua will bring life, in a way that events will cause our lives to be more abundant. We will see and experience life more deeply because of his indwelling Spirit.
When my Savior opened my eyes to these things, I discovered that I was seeking after the gifts of the Spirit ever since I was a Child. I wanted to be a healer, and wanted to know the future, I wanted to be powerful in prayer, and more than anything I wanted wisdom. He has put all of these things within my reach, all I have to do is love Him, which is so easy!
We love Him because He first loved us. (1st John 4:19)
Shalom my friends,
